Among the covenant God has instituted with man is the covenant of harvest! Albeit it is conditional, you must sow to harvest. If you don’t sow anything, don’t expect any harvest. V 22 “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease”. While there is a time frame for the planting, the harvesting time is continuous i.e. if you plant good deeds once, you are entitled to receive it back in manifold. Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also will reap”; this scripture has often been portrayed in the negative, but going through the whole chapter, you will see Paul was not inferring about evil deeds but was emphasizing on good deeds.
I have heard many times people give reasons why they will not pay tithe, that it is not a New Testament practice. I often don’t try to convince them otherwise, but for the records, giving in the New Testament is even greater than one tenth. Tithing is the only covenant practice where God said He will open the windows of heaven to rain down blessings on you, so if you want that to happen to you, pay your tithe. However, I do teach people to pray over their tithes before paying and expect full reward for their action. The prayer is the water that will make your seed sown to germinate well. But note, if you don’t pay tithe, you are not under any curse!
Among other covenant practice of sowing is offering, helping the poor, doing good works, feeding/clothing people, charity etc. all these go a long way to speak for you for your sky to be full for the rain of blessing to fall on you and make you operate under the covenant of harvest.
At times people wonder why they’ve not been seeing blessings in return for their deeds. It may be delayed by the enemy and in that case, pray against delay. Secondly, your giving is weighed according to what you have left with you. The widow was judged highest giver by Jesus though she gave the least. The rich gave out of their abundance while this woman gave her all. Thirdly, your seed might be large in God’s eyes, if so it will not manifest the same with small seeds. For example, maize seed is small compared to coconut seed. While you have started harvesting maize, coconut is yet to mature not to talk of producing fruit. But the moment the coconut starts producing fruits, it is never ending.
Prayer point: Father Lord help me to sow good deeds in other to operate in the covenant of harvest.
