DANIEL’S RESOLVE (Daniel 1:1-21)

Daniel was carried as a young lad into captivity, he and some few privilege others were separated from other captives in a school where they were trained to become learned people. They were fed from the delicacies that the king eat. Daniel and fellow captives do not have any right to determine what they want to eat or not but Daniel and his friends resolved in their mind not to eat food sacrificed to idols. Before any animal is slaughtered in ancient Chaldeans, they offer them up as sacrifice to their gods and this is what Daniel and his three friends found abominable. They asked the steward to test them on vegetables and water for ten days to prove their claims. V15 “And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies”. At the expiry of their training period, V18-20 “Now at the end of the days, when the king had said that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. Then the king interviewed them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they served before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm”.

In our present world, many people easily compromise standards. Youths indulge in immorality without shame, engage in dangerous vices and all sorts. As a child of God, a youth alive for Christ, you should not join the multitude to do evil. Abstain from sexual immorality, shun wicked vices, do not place material things above spirituality etc. as Daniel and his friends stood out for God in their generation and God later promoted them, decide to stand out too for God in this generation and God will soon promote you too.

Prayer point: Father Lord help me to continue standing in the face of temptation where others are falling.
