FERTILE LAND, BARREN LAND Matthew 13:1-8

Fertile land is the kind of land that has plant nutrients which support the growth and yield of crops. There is no one fertile land fit for all crops; as crops are different, the soil type they require to yield optimally differs too. For example, rice and sugar cane need water logged area; cassava will thrive better in the savannah. On the other hand, barren land has very little or no nutrients to support plant growth; deserts are very good examples of barren land.
According to our text, the sower sowed his seed on four different kind of land, the wayside, stony place, thorns filled land and good soil. The first three represent barren land because no good thing eventually came out of them but the fourth represented a good and fertile land.
It would be foolhardy to plant crops meant for tropical region in a temperate region because it will not grow. As it is in the case of sowing in the physical, so it is with sowing in the spiritual. Not all seeds sown in the spiritual bring fruits because many places people sow those seeds are barren land.
Philippians 4:15-17 “Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account”. There are ministries that are fertile land, just like Apostle Paul. Because the Holy Spirit is in them, the seed sown into them yield fruits. For every sower, there is an account for you and when you sow in fertile land, commensurate fruits increase to our accounts.
There are many ministers that almost force people to sow into their lives or their ministries. Unless there is genuine need, it is not right to be calling for seed anyhow. Such people have violated the covenant behind the giving and receiving and have defrauded many people out of their resources.
The Holy Spirit our inner witness, who searches all things and know all things, should be our guide when we want to sow our seed. As the Spirit of God, He can never lead us to barren land but always to fruitful land.

Prayer point: Holy Spirit, please lead me always to sow on fertile land in Jesus name.
