GAIN UNDERSTANDING THROUGH LEARNING Daniel 9:1-4

V 1-4 “In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans; In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments”.

Daniel by studying got understanding that the time the Jews were to spend in exile had expired and he sought the face of the Lord through fasting and prayers. If he had not gone to search the books (scriptures written by Jeremiah) he wouldn’t have known about the divine timing.

In our time, we are very committed to a lot of things that seems important, but very lazy and lethargic towards the things of the spirit that matter most. Many of us wake daily with a start, say a short prayer and instantly we prepare to face the day’s challenge. We don’t have a particular time set out daily where we commune with God and daily search the scriptures. Most people have phones with bible applications on them but we seldom open to read it. Sunday has been reserved to the official day we relate with God.

There are some aspects of our lives that we desperately need answers to, also there are some secrets about our lives hidden to us but revealed in the word of God if only we can search it out. And if you don’t search them out, though they are yours, the blessings may elude you not because God has not released it, but because you don’t even know it exists in the first case. Searching for pearls and minerals are no easy jobs as it involves much digging. So also, searching for rare gems of the word of God is not going to be satisfied by just flipping through the scriptures once in a while but by diligent studying.

When you study the word of God, you are investing in your spiritual life and thereby opening yourself up more to God, you have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Everything we run after today that seems important will someday not be that important again except the word of God. Create time to study daily to discover more insights into your glorious destiny.

Prayer point: Lord release upon me the grace to daily commune with you in Jesus’ name.
