GOD’S PRESENCE; THE ULTIMATE (Exodus 33:12-17)

Shortly after Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they fell into idolatry. When they got to the environs of Mount Sinai, Moses went up to the mountain to commune with God. But because he tarried on the mountain, Aaron molded a golden calf for them and they worshipped it. This angered God and He dispatched Moses from the mountain to attend to the situation. Thousands of the Israelites lost their lives because of this sin.
Prior to today’s text, because of the Israelites’ idolatry, God wanted to withdraw His presence form them in order not to destroy them in anger but He would instead send an angel to lead them. V2-3 “And I will send My Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people”.
Moses pleaded with God not to withdraw His presence from them V14-17 “And He said, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Then he said to Him, If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth. So the LORD said to Moses, I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name”.
Moses understood perfectly well that it is far better the presence of the Lord be with them or they stay put at where they are. In our present world, many people are leading God instead of allowing God to lead them. They take decisions outside of God’s directive and expect God to sanction it. God will never honor such arrangement. Regardless of what you might have gotten yourself into before, do not write off yourself that God cannot use you again. Despite the sin of idolatry by the israelites, after repentance, the divine presence of God still followed them. All you need to do is just to yield yourself totally to Him.
Do not venture out unless you are sure He is going with you and do not go to where He will not follow you to. If you wait for years of assurance before setting out, be rest assured that you success because of God’s presence will make news.

Prayer point: Father Lord, please do not let me depart from your presence in Jesus name.
