KEYS OF THE KINGDOM Matthew 16:13-19

Keys are small implements that do great works. The biggest and strongest of doors and locks are opened by keys. At times when you see how small some keys are, you will not appreciate them until the key is lost.

The fact that you are a member of a family does not mean the door will automatically open unto you when it is locked, if you don’t have the key, even if you are the head of that family, you will have to wait for the member of the family that is with the key before anyone can enter. As it is in the physical, so it is in the spirit realm. The kingdom of God operates by principles and if you have the keys, you will access it but if you don’t, you will have to wait on those that have the keys before you can be granted access to what you want.

In our text, Jesus asked what the opinions of people were about Him from His disciples. From the responses, the people saw Jesus as a man because they likened Him to mortal men. He then asked the disciples the same question, V15-19 “He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answered and said to him, blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”.

It is very possible for you to be born again and yet does not have the keys to the kingdom of God. Peter the spokesman of the disciples knew who Jesus was and even at that, it was revealed to him by the Spirit of God. So you must have a personal relationship with God before He will reveal Himself to you. After God has seen your sincerity and revealed Himself to you, He will fortify you for His kingdom sake. It is worthy to note that is not only ministers that are empowered for the kingdom sake, all believers can be empowered.

After you have been tested and trusted, Jesus Himself will give you the keys of the kingdom of God, to enable you have access to the kingdom at will. This privilege is not reserved for selected few, but for as many that will thirst after it.
