One of the cardinal ways of receiving more and more blessing is helping the poor and the needy. As it has been earlier mentioned that God’s blessing is an entrustment, it is also a currency. Once it keeps flowing, the source will never fail to give in new supply of current, 2Corinthians 9:10 “Now He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for eating, may He supply and multiply your seed, and increase the fruits of your righteousness”. Proverbs 19:17 “He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will pay back what he has given”. Giving to the poor, widows and needy is an important aspect of ministry that God ordained, in fact Jesus Christ observed it too during His earthly ministry.
Hebrews 13:2-3 “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them those who are mistreated since you yourselves are in the body also”. Many people are not kind to strangers and the poor, they see them as of no benefit at all. But we are enjoined to help strangers as some might be angels in disguise just like the case of Abraham.
According to our text today, Dorcas was a benefactor to many widows and when she died, her beneficiaries refused to allow her die, they sent for Peter to come and raise her. Peter came and did raise her. For the sake of helping the widows, poor and needy, you will be under divine protection as your beneficiaries will always pray to God for you. Do not close your eyes to the poor around you. If you want to feed nations tomorrow, start by feeding one poor person today.
Prayer point: Father help me to be a helping hand always to the poor in Jesus name.
