Giving to God’s kingdom advancement is one of the ways to receive God’s blessings. Many people have turned the bible upside down all because they don’t want to give to God’s work. The material resources that God gave you are an entrustment and He will test your obedience by asking you to give. When the Israelites were leaving Egypt, God asked them through Moses to ask of precious things from the Egyptians, Exodus 12:35-36 “Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians”.

God provided for them because He was going to ask them to give again for kingdom’s purpose. God will not ask from you what He has not given you, Exodus 25:1-2 “Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering”. In the New Testament, Jesus visited the house of a centurion on the request of the Jewish leaders to heal a member of his household. They testified that the man loved their nation and had built them a synagogue, and Jesus honoured them because of this recommendation about the man, Luke 7:1-7.

In our text today, God made it explicitly clear that we must give towards kingdom advancement. The kingdom of God and the church (not the building per se, but the people of God) must be given top priority because through it we are laying treasures in heaven for ourselves. In 2Corinthians 8 and 9, the chapters spoke extensively about giving to kingdom purpose.

Note of caution though, do not think your giving is a donation to the church or that you are supporting any pastor, or you are helping the church, you are only doing yourself a favour. Your giving to the church/pastor is a spiritual transaction between you and God to provoke blessings. You want to prosper? Follow this covenant practice.

Prayer point: I receive the grace to give sacrificially to the work of God and to His ministers in Jesus name.
