WHEN MERCY SPEAKS (Exodus 2:1-10)

In the midst of chaos, when God’s mercy speaks, it will stand you out. God can choose to favour just an individual in the midst of many people. Proverbs 16:7 “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him”.

Pharaoh gave an order for the death of all male sons born to the Israelites in order to check their population growth. The order was so severe that no male child survived. But when Moses’ mother gave birth to him, she never gave up on him, and by providence, he was spared for three months. But it became dangerous to keep him further and she devised a scheme to release him for adoption. By the mercy of God, it was Pharaoh’s daughter that the lot fell on to adopt him. She did and adopted him and released him to be brought up by the real mother under her protection. After he was weaned, Moses was raised in the palace of Pharaoh; the man that gave death of his kinsmen.

Pharaoh must be seeing Moses in the palace and he must know from his skin colour that he was not an Egyptian but an Israeli, yet he spared him. Moses lived on the provision of the palace as provided by Pharaoh and enjoyed peace and protection also. The mercy of God was upon him and the people that should be threat to his life, were those that actually took care of him. the mercy of God can make so great a difference in your life, that when everybody is lamenting, you are rejoicing. Economy of the world system is wobbling, yet in the midst of it, God’s children will continue to prosper.

God said in Romans 9:15-16 “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”. As a covenant child, we are entitled to ask God for what we need, ask Him to show you mercy!

Prayer point: Father Lord, count me among those you will show mercy in Jesus name.
