Vision is the divine and perfect will of God for an individual. The vision of God for your life is the blue print to your fulfillment in life. Although visions are from God, He will never force anyone to follow his vision. In fact, circumstances that will be happening may at times negate the direction the vision is supposed to take. God revealed to Joseph that he was going to be the greatest in his father’s house. When he shared the dream with his family, it brought a negative reaction from them. He was almost killed but eventually got sold as a slave to Egypt. At Egypt he got into another bout of challenge with his master’s wife who wanted him to commit fornication with her, but he declined. Hear his response, Genesis 39:8-9”But he refused and said to his master’s wife, Behold, my master does not know what is in the house with me, and he has given all that he has into my hand. There is none greater in this house than I. Neither has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” That could only come from a man of vision. Where was God when his brothers wanted to kill him? Where was God when he was sold into slavery? Yet he said how could he do this great wickedness against the same God? Not even against Potiphar but God! He was sold out to God.
Vision is the fundamental requirements of all world changers. World changers are focused visionaries. They discovered their vision in life and they stay with it. Focused visionaries are men of singular vision, they got a word from the Lord and they stay with it until it sticks. In science, the men that did great invention were laughed at in the beginning of their projects but they did not allow the mockery to stop them from achieving their dreams. Thomas Edison, the man that discovered the light bulb was asked on how felt failing 1000 times before finally getting result; his reply “ I didn’t fail 1000 times, I only learnt how not to produce a light bulb 1000 times”. The Wright brothers that first flew a plane were looked at a foolish when they say machine could actually fly! All the scientists of the time unanimously agreed that machines can never fly, yet these brothers did exactly opposite.
There is a big difference between being successful and being fulfilled. It is very possible to be successful and not fulfilled but there is no way you wont be successful. In success, you may be rich but being fulfilled may not come with worldly riches. While vision gives fulfilment, ambition brings success; ambition is flesh driven. Apostle Paul was a successful Pharisee, aspiring to become a Sanhedrin but he was not fulfilled in it. But when the call of God came upon his life, he embraced it wholeheartedly found fulfilment in it, Galatians 1:13-17”For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus”. I have seen supposed successful people that committed suicide, because they were not fulfilled. Fulfilment is not about money but the joy derived from fulfilling a purpose that overwhelms the heart.
People have discovered their purpose deliberately after intense prayers while some stumble into it and still, some discover it by chance. Whatever your purpose is, it will find you and want to exact itself on you but you must express it out. For example, if part of God’s purpose for your life is to feed nations, there will always be some gentle nudge on you to feed that poor person near you. You may say you don’t have enough, what you don’t know is you grow in it as God multiply you, 2Corinthians 9:8”And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self-sufficiency, you may abound to every good work”. You start from a point and God will continue to make you have more as you discharge your duty faithfully, so as to meet the need of your purpose. V 10 goes to say, “Now He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for eating, may He supply and multiply your seed, and increase the fruits of your righteousness”. Apostle Paul was so given to his calling that all the negatives he experienced never bothered him anymore, his only concern was how to please the Caller. Many times he was in sorrow and pains, yet making many happy and healed; perceived as poor yet making many rich. Till the point of his death, he was radiating with joy because of inner peace which brought fulfilment to him. I know of a sister that derives joy from teaching children. We encouraged her to start a school, the motive not because of money but fulfilment. Today, she is fulfilled and accomplished school Proprietor!
If you are still at variance with your vision, you can approach God deliberately in prayer to reveal it to you! Not all will be ordained preachers, and not everybody will work to receive salary. You might have been set apart to be a salary payer instead of waiting for one at the end of the month. Regardless of your calling, I congratulate you ahead as you discover your purpose in life.
