The only thing that changes in us when we give our lives to Christ is our spirits. You did not grow new head when you became born again, or new hands or legs but your spirit was quickened, made alive and reconciled back to God. We must understand that man is a spirit being, has a soul and lives in a body.
While the unregenerated spirit is made alive once and for all when we gave our lives to Christ, the soul of man needs to be constantly renewed. The mind and soul are interchangeable used for each other but has the same meaning. While we connect with God with the spirit, It is with the mind that we relate in the earth and been born again does not stop you from thinking. Therefore Christianity is a call to reasoning. V1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. Romans 8:27 “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God”.
How do we renew our minds? Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”. The epistle of James was written to a believing church, so it couldn’t have been addressed to sinners. The soul of man needs to be saved daily by constantly receiving, meditating and acting on word. When you act on the word, it becomes difficult to sin against God. With the Holy Spirit living inside of you, and your soul renewed by being a doer of the word will set you on a path of victorious living.
Prayer point: Father help me to meditate and also be a doer of Your word.
