A gate is a movable barrier, usually on hinges, that closes a gap in a fence or wall, a means of access or entrance. It usually acts as a protective barrier for whatever is built or located inside of its confinement.
V18 “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. Many Christians do not understand the meaning of this verse. The church is meant to be on the offensive but many interpret it to mean the church should be on the defensive against the kingdom of darkness. The gates of hell has locked many people inside of hell, and the spiritual captives are not aware of their captivity. “The gates of shall not prevail against the church”, with the church aware that many people are in the spiritual captivity of hell, she is to go on the offensive and destroy the gates of hell holding the people captive.
Unfortunately, the modern church mentality is to wait for the kingdom of darkness to attack while we mount defensive strategies. But to get it right, we must be on the offensive against the kingdom of darkness through massive evangelism, delivering those in bondages and setting the captives free. The church of Christ is triumphant, standing on the victory that Christ has won for her. But if you don’t know your spiritual status, how can you be of help to those under the bondage of the kingdom of satan? As a matter of fact, many Christians themselves are under one form of bondage or the other; in the form of spiritual challenges or physical sickness.
Today, you have been made to understand that you are suppose to be on the offensive against the kingdom of darkness and not defensive. First and foremost, you must be free before you can be an agent freedom to others. John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. Now you know the truth, take charge of your life and destiny.
Prayer point: As a member of the triumphant church of Christ, the gates of hell and the whole power of darkness can never prevail against me in Jesus name.
