One of the basic things that the Lord requires from us is obedience. It is access to divine secrets that distinguish the redeemed of the Lord from other people. Every divine visitation and intervention makes a definite demand that needs to be obeyed. It is a different thing to obey and another to be willing. All the people that got God’s heart all were willing and obedient. Isaiah 1:19 “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land”. You must be willing first before you obey.
Willingness comes from the mind before the action is actually taken, Jesus told a parable to this effect in Matthew 21:28-31 “But what do you think? A man had two sons; and he came to the first and said, Son, go work in my vineyard today. He answered and said, I will not. But afterwards, he repented and went. And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir; and did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to Him, The first. Jesus said to them, truly I say to you that the tax-collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you”. According to the parable, the first son that actually went to the vineyard was willing and obeyed his father.
When God instructed Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac, instantly Abraham obeyed because he had a willing heart. His obedience made God swore by Himself to establish a covenant with him and to his generations after him.
V 1-2 “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God”. God demand obedience from you not to make Him a better God, no! He is the I AM THAT I AM, He is not nearing perfection, He is the all-perfect God. He demands it from you so as to bless you. It is not just about obeying, let your obedience come from a willing heart.
Prayer point: Lord help me to be willing and obedient to You in the name of Jesus.
